Clothesline

Clothesline is a jewel of a dress agency in Canterbury, Kent. Long established, you know that when you enter you will find something special.

The brief given was ‘Venice’. When looking at images of Venetian boutiques and bottegas, the colour ways are almost always very bold.

Looking at the Little Greene palette I was drawn to Obsidian Green, a very dark and distinguished colour. The type of green found used on an antiquarian bookshop or fine art gallery, it was perfect. To have maximum effect it would cover the entire masonry, as well as all windows and the door frame.

Which warm, inviting colour to use for the door? The appropriate shade to sit alongside such a dark and mysterious tone. Venetian shop doors can be terracotta, scarlet or crimson. It had to have the most welcoming of hues, but it was important that it was also audacious.

‘Leather’ the most pigmented pink shade was the one (in the shiniest of glosses!)

Client and clientele delighted, a very happy ending.
